How to start a Progressive claim
- Phone: 1-800-776-4737.
- Online or in the Progressive app, through your account.
- Not a Progressive customer? If the other driver is insured with Progressive, you can report the claim as a guest on their website.
Write down the claim number and your adjuster's name and phone. Send us both, and we take over the communication.
You choose the shop, not Progressive
California's Auto Body Repair Consumer Bill of Rights says it plainly: an insurance company can't require you to have the repairs done at a specific body shop. You also have the right to a written, itemized estimate, to know what your policy covers for towing, storage and a rental car, and to get your own estimate from a registered shop while your claim is open.
Progressive has a network of repair shops and guarantees their repairs while you own the car. Using a network shop is your choice, not a requirement. Ask any shop you consider, including us, what warranty it gives. Ours is 3 years in writing on body and paint.
Repair or take the payment?
Progressive notes that you don't have to repair the car: you can get an inspection and a payment for the damage minus your deductible. Before you take that route, check two things: whether you have a loan or lease (the lender may require the repair), and whether hidden damage was counted. A first estimate written without teardown is often low. See why the first estimate is often low.
How we handle a Progressive claim at GV
- Tow or drop-off. If the car can't be driven, we tow it to our shop in Downtown LA for free when we do the repair.
- Photos and teardown. We document all the damage, including what's hidden behind the bumper and panels.
- Estimate and adjuster. We send the estimate and photos to Progressive and work directly with the adjuster.
- Supplements. If more damage shows up during the repair, we send Progressive a supplement for approval before we continue.
- Repair and report. Factory procedures, color-matched paint, a written report with photos at pickup, and a 3-year warranty on body and paint.
