The first estimate is only what's visible
The insurer's first estimate is usually written from photos or a quick look at the outside of the car. Brackets, sensors, absorbers and structural parts behind the bumper and panels can't be seen until the car is taken apart.
Teardown shows the real damage
When we start the repair, we remove the damaged parts and inspect everything behind them. Modern cars have radar sensors, cameras and crumple zones that often need replacing or calibrating after an impact.
What a supplement is
A supplement is an addition to the original estimate. We photograph and document the hidden damage, list the parts and labor, and send it to the insurer. The adjuster reviews it, sometimes re-inspects the car, and approves it before we continue.
What it means for you
- Supplements are a normal part of collision repair, especially on newer cars.
- On a covered claim, approved supplements are paid by the insurer. Your deductible usually stays the same.
- It can add a few days while the insurer reviews it. We keep you updated by text.
- We repair to the manufacturer's procedures, not to the first estimate.
