How to report a GEICO claim
- Phone: (800) 841-3000.
- Online on geico.com or in the GEICO Mobile app. GEICO says online reporting takes a couple of minutes.
If the other driver is insured with GEICO and caused the accident, you file a third-party claim against their policy. Keep the claim number and the adjuster’s contact.
You choose the shop, not GEICO
California's Auto Body Repair Consumer Bill of Rights says it plainly: an insurance company can't require you to have the repairs done at a specific body shop. You also have the right to a written, itemized estimate, to know what your policy covers for towing, storage and a rental car, and to get your own estimate from a registered shop while your claim is open.
GEICO has its own network called Auto Repair Xpress, with repairs guaranteed while you own the car. GEICO itself says you don’t have to use it: at a non-network shop, a covered repair is still paid up to the approved estimate. The difference is whose warranty you get. At GV it is our 3-year written warranty on body and paint.
"Up to the approved estimate": what that means
The first approved estimate usually covers what can be seen from the outside. When hidden damage turns up during the repair, the shop documents it and sends a supplement, and the approved amount is updated. Read more in why the first estimate is often low.
How we handle a GEICO claim at GV
- Tow or drop-off. If the car can't be driven, we tow it to our shop in Downtown LA for free when we do the repair.
- Photos and teardown. We document all the damage, including what's hidden behind the bumper and panels.
- Estimate and adjuster. We send the estimate and photos to GEICO and work directly with the adjuster.
- Supplements. If more damage shows up during the repair, we send GEICO a supplement for approval before we continue.
- Repair and report. Factory procedures, color-matched paint, a written report with photos at pickup, and a 3-year warranty on body and paint.
