How to report a Mercury claim
- Phone: (800) 503-3724, day or night.
- Online through Mercury’s digital claims page on mercuryinsurance.com.
Mercury is a California insurer, so in Los Angeles it is common that you, the other driver, or both are insured with Mercury. Each car’s repair is handled as its own claim.
You choose the shop, not Mercury
California's Auto Body Repair Consumer Bill of Rights says it plainly: an insurance company can't require you to have the repairs done at a specific body shop. You also have the right to a written, itemized estimate, to know what your policy covers for towing, storage and a rental car, and to get your own estimate from a registered shop while your claim is open.
Mercury works with preferred body shops and has a "find a repair shop" tool on its website. A recommendation is not a requirement: under California law you choose where your car is repaired, and you can bring it to GV.
Who pays: your policy or the other driver’s
- The other driver was at fault: their insurer pays the repair, and you usually pay nothing.
- You were at fault: your collision coverage pays, minus your deductible.
- Fault is disputed: start a claim with your own insurer so the repair isn’t stuck. Your insurer can recover the money from the other side later.
How we handle a Mercury claim at GV
- Tow or drop-off. If the car can't be driven, we tow it to our shop in Downtown LA for free when we do the repair.
- Photos and teardown. We document all the damage, including what's hidden behind the bumper and panels.
- Estimate and adjuster. We send the estimate and photos to Mercury and work directly with the adjuster.
- Supplements. If more damage shows up during the repair, we send Mercury a supplement for approval before we continue.
- Repair and report. Factory procedures, color-matched paint, a written report with photos at pickup, and a 3-year warranty on body and paint.
