How to file a Liberty Mutual claim
- Phone: 800-2CLAIMS (800-225-2467) for personal auto claims.
- Online in your Liberty Mutual account, 24/7, or in the Liberty Mutual app, where you can also upload damage photos and reserve a rental.
You choose the shop, not Liberty Mutual
California's Auto Body Repair Consumer Bill of Rights says it plainly: an insurance company can't require you to have the repairs done at a specific body shop. You also have the right to a written, itemized estimate, to know what your policy covers for towing, storage and a rental car, and to get your own estimate from a registered shop while your claim is open.
Liberty Mutual has a Guaranteed Repair Network of shops it works with. You still choose where the car is repaired: California law says an insurer can’t require a specific shop. Tell Liberty Mutual you’ve chosen GV.
If you have a car loan or lease
Liberty Mutual notes that when there is a lienholder, the payment goes to you and the shop you chose. If you haven’t picked a shop yet, the check may be made out to you and your lender, which is slower to cash. Choose the shop early, and send us the claim number so payment comes straight to the repair.
How we handle a Liberty Mutual claim at GV
- Tow or drop-off. If the car can't be driven, we tow it to our shop in Downtown LA for free when we do the repair.
- Photos and teardown. We document all the damage, including what's hidden behind the bumper and panels.
- Estimate and adjuster. We send the estimate and photos to Liberty Mutual and work directly with the adjuster.
- Supplements. If more damage shows up during the repair, we send Liberty Mutual a supplement for approval before we continue.
- Repair and report. Factory procedures, color-matched paint, a written report with photos at pickup, and a 3-year warranty on body and paint.
